On 12 March, HKT held the “SD-WAN Enterprise Solution Forum” in conjunction with CISCO at PCCW Tower, the headquarters of HKT in Hong Kong.

With a theme of "Network transformation, cost reduction and business agility”,the forum attracted IT managers, CIOs, CTOs, specialists and scholars from several industry sectors. The specialist representatives of Cisco and Deloitte China shared industry insights and explained how connections could be established among data centers and subsidiaries instantly through SD-WAN networks, thereby enhancing network speed, security and efficiency.

In recent years, many businesses have been interested in using SD-WAN as a flexible and cost-effective solution to upgrading their network. According to IDC's  2010-2021 forecast report on global SD-WAN, "given the challenges arising from the increasing traffic of cloud computing, big data and analyses, the sales of SD-WAN will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 69% over the next 5 years, reaching US$8.05 billion by 2021".

SD-WAN is favored by many operators for their lower cost, improved application traffic management and smart routing.

In his opening remarks to the forum, Mr Tim Lam, Assistant Vice President, Product and Network Planning Department of HKT China, said that the digital transformation of enterprises had moved into a stage of rapid acceleration. As the deployment of traditional WAN has become increasingly challenging, the need for SD-WAN has become pressing. As well as providing a one-stop managed SD-WAN service, HKT is ranked among the top in the world in terms of competitive strength in information technology. HKT also acts as a leader in helping enterprises accomplish digital transformation.

An SD-WAN service also gives rise to the need for interconnectivity in areas including trade and logistics. In his speech, Peter Koo, Deloitte China's national leader of IT advisory and assurance services, briefly introduced the market potential of the Greater Bay Area in the era of digitalization, and the potential challenges which chief officers faced.

In his presentation titled "Cisco's Secure SD-WAN Transcends Boundaries", Mr. Gary Ko, Technical Architect of Cisco Systems Hong Kong, Ltd., introduced the layout and construction of Cisco’s SD-WAN system, and elaborated on the specific market trends and needs based on successful cases in different industries.

Representatives of HKT shared the latest information on the industry, explored potential opportunities and introduced the capabilities and strengths of HKT in network services.
